The NT Story

What started off as a $6 investment, is now a 6-figure business out of her basement in Monticello, Minnesota.
Like many of us, the 2020 pandemic impacted Northern Ties founder, Jacklyn Rassmussen. While in quarantine and on furlough, Jacklyn not only had time to plan and complete projects around the house, she also began experimenting with reverse tie dye (or acid wash) fabric treatment--a technique that uses a bleach solution to chemically change fabric colors with organic, one-of-a kind results.

What began as a personal project to satisfy her own creative curiosity, soon took on a life of its own once friends, family, and coworkers saw her designs and requested commissioned articles of clothing. With her German Shepard dogs, Maxx and Meeka by her side, Jacklyn soon discovered she had a passion for the process and started bleaching everything. That’s where it all began, Northern Ties was founded on June 15th, 2020. And a little over a month later, was Northern Ties' first official first product drop (July 31, 2020).
Since then, Jacklyn has left her corporate job in March of 2021, pursuing Northern Ties full time.

2026 Update: Jackie is still living in Monticello, Minnesota in her townhome. She adopted, Milli in October 2025, two years since Meeka's passing -- another German shepherd. Jackie also bought land in October 2025 back in her hometown, Brainerd, Minnesota. The next adventure for Jackie -- a Northern Ties build, truly. See the story unfold over the next couple of years.
“I hope my work reminds people that when they wear a Northern Ties design, they’re wearing a piece of clothing as dope as they are.” - Jacklyn (from one badass to another)
